Day 28-Conceived by the Holy Spirit
And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. —Luke 1:35 NKJV
Summary
This moment in Luke’s Gospel reveals a holy mystery: God does His greatest work not through human effort, but through divine power. Mary is not asked to strive, figure things out, or make something happen. She is invited to receive. What will be born through her life will be the result of the Holy Spirit’s work, not her own ability. This is consecration at its purest—yielding fully to God’s overshadowing presence.
Insight for Today
Consecration means allowing the Holy Spirit to come upon you and do what only He can do. Just as Mary could not produce the promise in her own strength, neither can we manufacture spiritual fruit through willpower or discipline alone. God brings forth what is holy, eternal, and life-giving when we surrender control and trust His power at work within us.
Going Deeper
The word overshadow carries the image of God’s presence covering, protecting, and activating His purpose—much like the cloud of glory that filled the tabernacle in the Old Testament. This reminds us that consecration is not about us striving to do better, but about position. When we remain yielded and available, God forms Christ within us by His Spirit, bringing His life into every area we have placed on the altar.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, I welcome Your presence. I lay down striving, fear, and self-reliance, and I choose surrender. Overshadow my life with Your power. Bring forth what only You can produce in me. May Christ be formed in my heart, my thoughts, and my actions as I remain yielded to You. Amen.
Reflection
Where might God be inviting you to stop striving and start trusting His Spirit to work within you?
