Day 29-Dying with Christ, Living in Him

This is a faithful saying: For if we died with Him, we shall also live with Him. — 2 Tim. 2:11 NKJV

Summary

This faithful saying reminds us of a foundational truth of consecration: death comes before life. To die with Christ is not merely a symbolic idea—it is a spiritual reality in which the old way of living is laid down so that a new life in Him can emerge. Union with Christ means we share not only in His death, but also in His resurrection life.

Insight for Today

Dying to self often begins with surrendering fleshly desires and patterns that keep us bound to old ways of thinking and living. There may be habits, attitudes, or comforts in our lives that quietly hinder our ability to move forward with God. These things, if left unaddressed, can keep us tethered to the past and resistant to the new work God longs to do within us.

At the same time, consecration does not stop there. Sometimes God asks us to lay down things that are not sinful at all—things that may even be good, familiar, or closely tied to our sense of identity. When He calls us into a new assignment or season, there can be a real dying to self as we release what once defined us. Yet God never asks us to let go without purpose; what He offers in return is always greater than what we leave behind.

Going Deeper

Throughout Scripture, stepping into God’s calling often required leaving something behind—old patterns, former roles, or familiar places. This surrender can feel unsettling, especially when what we are releasing has brought comfort or stability. But living with Christ means trusting that our identity is rooted in Him alone. As we yield fully, resurrection life begins to shape us for the next season He has prepared.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, I surrender every area of my life to You. I lay down fleshly desires that hinder my walk, and I also release what You are asking me to leave behind as You lead me forward. Even when surrender feels costly, I trust that You are working all things for good. Teach me to live fully in You, confident in the new life You are bringing forth. Amen.

Reflection

Is there anything—whether a fleshly pattern or a good but familiar thing—that you sense God asking you to leave behind as He calls you into a new season with Him?
