Story 1: Created with Purpose – You Were Made to Know God
Scripture: Genesis 1–2
“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” – Genesis 1:27
Summary:
In the very beginning, there was nothing—but then God spoke, and everything began. Light appeared, the sky stretched out, the oceans formed, and the earth came to life with plants and animals. God made the sun, moon, and stars. Everything He made was good.
Then, God made His most special creation: people. He made a man named Adam and a woman named Eve. And He made them in His own image—which means they were created to reflect what God is like. They were made to know God, walk with Him, and enjoy being close to Him.
God gave them everything they needed and placed them in a beautiful garden. He gave them value, purpose, and love. When He looked at everything He had made, He said it was very good.
Insight for Today:
You were made on purpose—and with great care. You are not a mistake. God created you in His image so you could know Him and reflect His love, kindness, and creativity.
When we understand that God made us in His image, it helps us see that our life has meaning and worth. You were made to be loved by God and to live in relationship with Him.
Pointing to Jesus:
From the very first pages of the Bible, we see that God brings life where there was nothing, and light where there was darkness. That’s what Jesus came to do, too. In the New Testament, Jesus is called the Light of the World (John 8:12). He came to bring new life and light into our hearts, especially when we feel lost or broken.
Jesus makes it possible for us to walk closely with God again—just like Adam and Eve did in the garden.
Reflection/Prayer:
God, thank You for creating me in Your image. Sometimes I forget how special that is. Please help me remember that I matter to You. Teach me how to walk with You, love like You, and live the way You made me to live.
Application Question:
Have you ever felt like you’re not important or don’t have a purpose? What does it mean to you to know that God made you in His image and wants a relationship with you?
