Day 8-You Belong to God
“For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” — 1 Corinthians 6:20 (NKJV)
Summary
Consecration becomes meaningful when we understand why we consecrate ourselves. We are not our own. God is not asking for something He has not already purchased; He is inviting us to live in alignment with what is already true. We belong to Him. Our purpose comes from Him. Our identity is rooted in Him. Because we were bought at a price—not with silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Jesus—our lives now exist to glorify Him in both body and spirit. Consecration is not obligation; it is the grateful response of a redeemed heart.
Before Paul exhorts us to glorify God in our bodies and spirits, he establishes the truth that makes obedience possible: our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. We are not striving to glorify God in human strength. We are empowered by the very Spirit who dwells within us. Identity comes before instruction. Because the Spirit lives in us, we are able to live surrendered lives that reflect God’s holiness, purpose, and presence.
Insight for Today
When Paul reminds believers that they were “bought at a price,” he is declaring a transfer of ownership. We have been redeemed, rescued, and released from sin’s authority. Old habits, mindsets, addictions, and false identities no longer have the right to rule us. We now belong to a loving King. Because of this, glorifying God is not limited to our inner spiritual life; it includes our physical lives as well. All of us was purchased, and therefore all of us is sacred.
Going Deeper
Consecrating your body means recognizing it as the vessel through which God carries out His purposes. What we consume, what we allow our eyes to dwell on, how we care for our physical health, and the boundaries we establish all matter. Discipline, purity, rest, and freedom from dopamine-driven patterns are not about control or appearance—they are expressions of worship. Stewarding the body well is not vanity; it is reverence for the presence of God within us.
Glorifying God in Your Spirit
Our spirit is the place of communion with God. It is where worship flows, conviction is received, and spiritual hunger is awakened. When our spirit is aligned with God, clarity increases and obedience becomes joyful rather than burdensome. A healthy spirit sharpens discernment and strengthens our sensitivity to the Spirit’s leading.
The Connection Between Body and Spirit
Body and spirit are deeply interconnected. What affects one inevitably affects the other. Overstimulation dulls spiritual clarity. Sexual purity strengthens spiritual confidence. Eating patterns influence emotional stability. Rest restores our ability to hear God. Mental focus enhances spiritual discernment. Consecration brings both body and spirit under God’s loving leadership, allowing wholeness and alignment to take place.
Pointing to Jesus
Jesus gave His body so that He could dwell in yours. He redeemed your spirit so that His Spirit could live within you. He purchased you completely so that you could be consecrated fully. When your whole being declares, “I belong to You,” God is glorified.
Prayer
Lord, thank You that I was bought with a price—the precious blood of Jesus. Teach me to honor Your presence in both my body and my spirit. Align my desires, habits, thoughts, and actions with Your purpose. May my whole life bring glory to You. Amen.
Reflection
Which area of your body or spirit is God inviting you to surrender more fully so that your life can glorify Him without restraint?
