Day 9-Present Yourself to the Right Master
“I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness.”— Romans 6:19 (NKJV)
Summary
Paul reminds us of a simple yet profound truth: before Christ, we presented our lives to whatever our flesh desired, and it only led to deeper bondage. But now, in Christ, we have a new calling. We are invited to present our bodies, thoughts, habits, and desires to righteousness—and that surrender produces holiness in our lives. Consecration is not merely avoiding sin; it is the intentional act of giving ourselves to the One who purifies, shapes, and transforms us. This verse calls us into active, daily participation in our sanctification.
Insight for Today
Paul says, “just as you presented yourselves…” meaning that before Christ, we willingly handed parts of our lives over to cravings, impulses, habits, destructive thinking, emotional reactions, fear patterns, and self-soothing behaviors. Those choices did not remain isolated. They formed cycles that led to more lawlessness, deeper patterns, and heavier chains. What we once presented ourselves to eventually began to rule us. But Paul’s words now signal a decisive shift. Everything changes in Christ. We are no longer bound to what once mastered us.
Going Deeper
When Paul speaks of “members,” he is referring to every part of our being—our thoughts, eyes, tongue, hands, time, emotions, habits, digital life, coping mechanisms, and physical bodies. Each part becomes an instrument in the hands of whatever we present it to. This is why consecration matters so deeply: we are always presenting ourselves to something. The question is no longer if we are yielding, but to whom.
Slaves of Righteousness Leading to Holiness
Paul gives us the key to transformation when he says, “So now… present your members as slaves of righteousness.” This looks like giving your thoughts to truth instead of lies, your tongue to blessing instead of complaint, your eyes to purity, your habits to discipline rather than impulse, your mind to renewal rather than distraction, your coping to the Holy Spirit instead of dopamine-driven escape, and your body to obedience rather than indulgence. This is not about perfection—it is about direction. Every righteous choice, no matter how small, leads somewhere. Holiness is not the starting point; it is the fruit that grows as we consistently present ourselves to righteousness.
Consecration Is Active, Not Passive
Paul does not tell us to try harder, improve ourselves, or strive for holiness. He simply says, “present yourselves.” Holiness is not something we achieve; it is something God produces when we yield to Him. Consecration shifts us from striving to surrender. Our role is to present ourselves. God’s role is to transform us.
Pointing to Jesus
Jesus presented Himself fully to the Father—body, mind, and spirit. Because of His obedience, righteousness now flows to us, holiness is formed within us, and transformation becomes possible. We become like the One we present ourselves to. Consecration is the daily, repeated choice to offer ourselves to Christ and allow His life to shape ours.
Prayer
Lord, today I present every part of myself to You—my mind, my body, my habits, my desires, my thoughts, and my emotions. Break every pattern that once led me into bondage. Teach me to present myself to righteousness so that holiness may grow in my life. Shape me, purify me, and prepare me for Your purpose. I surrender every part of my life to You today. Amen.
Reflection
Which “member” is God asking you to present to Him today—your thoughts, habits, appetites, emotional responses, time, or body? Identify one specific area and intentionally place it before Him in surrender.
