Day 11 — Peace with Others

“If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”

Romans 12:18

Summary

Advent is a season of peace — not just peace within us, but peace between us. When Jesus was born, the angels proclaimed, “Peace on earth, goodwill toward men.” His coming restored peace between God and humanity, and now He empowers us to carry that same peace into our relationships.

Relational peace is one of the greatest gifts we give and receive during this season.

Insight for Today — Peace Starts in the Heart Before It Flows to Others

The holidays often bring families together, but they also bring old tensions, unspoken hurts, and complicated dynamics. Advent invites us to approach others differently — with gentleness, humility, and the heart of Christ.

Peace with others does not mean:

  • agreeing on everything

  • being treated perfectly

  • ignoring boundaries

  • pretending past hurts didn’t happen

Peace with others means:

  • choosing grace over retaliation

  • releasing offense quickly

  • refusing to carry bitterness into the season

  • letting the love of Christ soften our responses

Jesus came to make peace possible, not perfect.
He calls us to do our part, even if others do not meet us halfway.

Going Deeper — The Way of the Prince of Peace

Jesus is called the Prince of Peace not just because He makes us feel peaceful, but because He creates peace between people who would otherwise remain divided.

Think of how He interacted:

  • He restored Peter after betrayal

  • He dined with sinners

  • He forgave His enemies

  • He united Jew and Gentile

  • He broke down walls culture had built

His life teaches us that peace is not merely the absence of conflict;
peace is the presence of Christlike love.

As His followers, we are called to be peacemakers — not just peacekeepers.

Peacekeepers avoid conflict.
Peacemakers bring healing where conflict once lived.

Advent is the perfect season for reconciliation, softening, forgiveness, and letting the love of God flow from us to those around us.

Pointing to Jesus

Jesus came to reconcile us to God — to restore peace where sin created separation.
Now He invites us to embody that same reconciliation:

  • to forgive as we’ve been forgiven

  • to love as we’ve been loved

  • to extend grace as we have received grace

Your ability to live at peace with others is not found in your own strength.
It is found in the Prince of Peace who lives within you.

Reflection/Prayer

Jesus, make me an instrument of Your peace. Where there is tension, help me bring gentleness. Where there is hurt, help me bring forgiveness. Where relationships feel strained, soften my heart and guide my words. Teach me to love others the way You have loved me. Amen.

Application Question

Is there someone God is inviting you to forgive, bless, or approach with gentleness this Advent season? What is one step toward peace you can take this week?
