The Lie of “I’ll Start Tomorrow”

“Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.” – Galatians 6:8

‍ ‍

Today’s Truth

‍ ‍

One of the most convincing lies we tell ourselves in this journey is: “I’ll start tomorrow.” It feels comforting in the moment—like a reset button. But often, it becomes a cycle of delay, guilt, and defeat. When we consistently sow to the flesh—choosing momentary relief over long-term healing—we strengthen the very patterns we’re trying to break. But every time we choose to sow to the Spirit, even in small ways, we build momentum toward freedom.

‍ ‍

Devotional Teaching

‍ ‍

Putting things off until tomorrow seems harmless. But spiritually, it keeps us bound. When we say “tomorrow,” we’re often avoiding the discomfort of obedience today. And the flesh loves comfort—it resists change. Scripture tells us that what we sow, we will reap. If we sow to the flesh—giving in to cravings, excuses, or emotional eating—we reap more of the same. But when we sow to the Spirit—even in tiny, imperfect ways—we strengthen our ability to walk in the Spirit. Let’s also address the 'all or nothing' mindset that often follows.

‍ ‍

We think:

‍ ‍

- “I already messed up, so I might as well eat everything.”

‍ ‍

- “I didn’t start today, so I’ll try again Monday. "

‍ ‍

But grace doesn’t operate on an all-or-nothing basis.

‍ ‍

The Spirit says:

‍ ‍

“Start now. With Me. From this moment. "

‍ ‍

Freedom doesn’t come from flawless days. It comes from faithful choices. Today matters. This moment matters. You don’t have to wait for a perfect start—you just need a willing heart.

‍ ‍

Today’s Prayer

‍ ‍

Lord, I have told myself 'I’ll start tomorrow' so many times, only to feel stuck in the same place. Help me break that cycle. Help me to sow to the Spirit—right now, in this moment. Teach me to stop waiting for perfect conditions and to walk with You one step at a time. Free me from the lie of all-or-nothing thinking. Let today—this moment—be holy, surrendered, and enough. I choose You today. Amen.
