Rebuilding the Temple
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” – 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 (NIV)
Today’s Truth
In the book of Haggai, God rebukes His people for neglecting the temple while they built comfortable homes for themselves.
“Because of you the heavens have withheld their dew and the earth its crops.” – Haggai 1:10 (NIV)
Their priorities were upside down—and it showed. The land became unfruitful. The heavens withheld rain. And everything they did seemed to come up empty.
God wasn’t punishing them out of anger—He was calling them back. Their physical lack was meant to reveal a deeper spiritual lack. And the same is true for us.
When we find our bodies tired, overrun, inflamed, or addicted to sugar and processed foods, it’s not just a physical issue—it’s often a spiritual call to rebuild.
Devotional Teaching
Your body is not an afterthought to God. It is His dwelling place—His temple.
1 Corinthians 6:19–20 reminds us:
“You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”
When we neglect this truth—when we live in survival mode, eat with no intention, give in to every craving, or swing between extremes—we may begin to see the consequences:
● fatigue
● blood sugar crashes
● inflammation
● shame
● foggy thinking
● discouragement
But just as in Haggai’s day, these are not signs that God is angry or punishing us. They are invitations—a wake-up call to return and rebuild what has been neglected.
God told His people:
“Give careful thought to your ways… You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little… Because of you, the heavens have withheld their dew and the earth its crops.” – Haggai 1:7–10
This isn’t just about food. It’s about alignment. When we ignore the temple and serve the flesh, we eventually feel the effects. But when we return, when we begin to rebuild with intentionality and grace, God meets us with His presence and strength.
And honoring God with our bodies is part of that rebuilding. We are not our own. We belong to Christ, purchased at a great price—the precious blood of Jesus. This means our bodies matter to Him deeply.
Practically, honoring God with your body might look like:
● Making choices that support health, not harm. Saying no to what enslaves you and yes to what brings life.
● Planning meals instead of living by impulse. Choosing foods that nourish rather than deplete.
● Caring for your body as a vessel of worship. Getting enough rest, staying hydrated, and moving your body in joyful ways.
● Avoiding extremes. Remembering that honoring God is not about punishment or obsession—but stewardship and love.
You don’t have to stay in ruin. Your body is His temple, and He delights to dwell there. He’s calling you to honor Him with your body—and to trust that in rebuilding, you’ll find not just physical health but spiritual alignment and peace.
Today’s Prayer
Heavenly Father, I’ve neglected this temple. I’ve chosen convenience over care. I’ve served my cravings more than I’ve honored You. And now I feel the consequences in my body, my energy, my mind, and my heart. But You are not here to condemn me. You are calling me to rebuild. Thank You for waking me up—not to shame me, but to realign me. Show me what rebuilding looks like for me today. Help me care for this body with wisdom, intention, and reverence—because it is Yours. Teach me what it means to honor You with my body, remembering that I was bought at a price and that You delight to dwell within me. Amen.

New Mindset to Carry Forward
The way I treat my body matters to God. When I neglect it, I feel the effects—but that isn’t where the story ends. He is calling me to rebuild. My body is not ruined—it is being restored. I belong to Him, and honoring Him with my body is part of living in the freedom and purpose He has for me.
