Day 5 — Hope for the Weary

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” —
Isaiah 40:29

Summary

Weariness is often a silent burden — the kind that builds slowly until we feel drained, overwhelmed, or emptied out. But God never rebukes the weary; He refreshes them. Isaiah reminds us that God doesn’t just give strength to the strong — He gives strength to the weary.

Hope is not for the energetic or the unburdened.
Hope is for the tired.

Insight for Today — When Your Strength Runs Out

Sometimes we think we have to be strong for everyone else, or strong for God, or strong to keep moving forward. But Advent reminds us that God sent His Son because we couldn’t carry life alone.

Your weakness is not a sign of spiritual failure.
It’s an invitation for God to carry you.

God never asked you to push through in your own strength.
He asked you to lean.

When your strength runs out, His strength begins.

Going Deeper — The Exchange of Strength

Isaiah 40:31 says, “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.”
The word renew in Hebrew means exchange — a swapping out.

Your weakness for His strength.
Your weariness for His power.
Your heaviness for His lifting.

God doesn’t just patch you up.
He fills you with new strength, the kind that rises above exhaustion.

Advent is not a season of striving — it is a season of receiving.

Pointing to Jesus

Jesus sees the weary and says, “Come to Me… and I will give you rest.”
He doesn’t require you to be strong to come.
He simply invites you.

The Savior born in a manger grew up to carry our burdens, heal our brokenness, and lift our heads. He is still doing that today.

Your hope is not in your ability to keep going —
it’s in His promise to carry you when you can’t.

Reflection/Prayer

Lord, I bring You my weariness today. You see every hidden burden, every drained moment, every quiet sigh. Renew my strength as I place my hope in You. Lift what feels too heavy for me to carry alone, and remind me that You are with me, strengthening me day by day. Amen.

Application Question

Where do you feel most weary right now, and what would it look like to exchange your weakness for God’s strength today?
